New version for the PC
Hi again!
I've uploaded a new version of Numbertron for the PC. There are three big new features. One is that you can now rebind the keyboard controls, which should be possible regardless of keyboard layout and what characters are on your keyboard (I've only tested with a Norwegian keyboard, so I know æ, ø and å works). This was surprisingly tricky to get working.
The second new feature is simply a «game over» / «game won» sequence. Previously the game would cut straight to the menu when you finished a game. It feels a lot more like a real game now that there's an actual «game over».
The final big thing is that there is now a tutorial. It is not interactive, but I think it shows the game mechanics pretty well. It will probably be expanded somewhat before the final release of the game (I may still add new gameplay features too, so those would have to be covered).
I think this is going to be the last major update to this version of the game, but there might be bugfixes et.c. As it's getting more and more feature complete, I need to start thinking about distributing it as its own thing, while the focus of the actual development will probably be more on adding new content (the campaign), proper graphics and polish.
Here's a list of new stuff (bugfixes not included):
Improved the info panel at the top of the screen, and added a menu-button so the ingame menu can be accessed without using the keyboard. Using the «start» button on the gamepad will also take you to the menu.
Added the option to redefine keyboard controls. The game should also be better at handling letters that are not in the A-Z range, but there is still some way to go.
Added «game over» and «game won» sequences, and somewhat improved the ending of a Tron-mode game.
Added a tutorial accessible through the main menu.
Made some changes to the diamond bonus calculation.
Minor improvements to graphics and user-friendliness here and there.
Be aware that if you have downloaded the game previously, you will probably have to manually remove the settings file before running, or the game might crash. I also fixed a highscore-related bug, so you might have to delete the highscore file as well. The settings are stored here: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Numbertron\
About Minesnake:
I was originally planning on republishing the Sharp MZ-version of Minesnake on Itch.io. But I had to make some changes to remove the references to a registered version et.c. And then I remembered that there are some ugly bugs in the game on the MZ-700, and that most people who actually bought it back when it was available were running it on that platform. So I kind of want to fix those and maybe make it a little nicer in general on the MZ-700 before making it available again. But that means I have to set off some time to actually do these fixes, and ... well, that's why the game hasn't been uploaded here yet. Hopefully I'll get on with it soon.
